5 takeways from Matchweek 24: Wolves duo impress, Bournemouth finally win and Man United need players

Barring one shocker where Manchester United lost at home against Burnley, the match-week 24 of Premier League was mostly devoid of upsets. The usual suspects were clinical, but there were quite a few games that went right down to the wire. A depleted Arsenal fought back heroically against Chelsea to come back, not once but twice in the game. But even their comeback isn’t comparable with Newcastle United’s.

The Magpies engaged in a game with Everton that undoubtedly arguably saw the most unexpected comeback of the season. They were trailing 2-0 till the 93rd minute when Florian Lejuene decided to play messiah and score two goals in a span of 102 seconds. Liverpool too had to work very hard for their late equaliser against Wolves.

Let us have a look at 5 takeaways from the Premier League match-week 24

#1 Wolves’ dangerous duo make the best pairing

Though Wolves might have lost the game against Liverpool, they can afford to keep their heads high. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side was phenomenal against the Premier League leaders. Jurgen Klopp heaped praises on Adama Traore, who was once again on the money taking Robertson and Wijnaldum on a merry run for most of the game.

Raul Jimenez’s equaliser came from an inch-perfect cross from the Spaniard. They are now the best strike duo of the season, as no other partnership has combined for more league goals this season.

#2 Bournemouth up and running again

All that Bournemouth needed to uplift their morale was one victory. After six winless games, five of which ended in defeat, the Cherries have finally managed to bag three points.

They were convincing in their 3-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion. Their fans would hope that this is the win that will eventually turn their nightmarish season around.

#3 The king of away wins

The Saints are not the best of teams this season, but they are certainly a formidable travelling unit. It is proved yet again as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side defeated a high-flying Crystal Palace 2-0, at the Selhurst Park.

20 of the 31 points that Saints have accumulated this season have come from away matches, which makes them the side to have the highest away points ratio in the Premier League. Six of their nine wins came from travels.

#4 Aguero – the nemesis of the newbies

Sergio Aguero recently reached the 250 goals landmark for Manchester City. Though he has been influential against almost every single team he has faced, Sergio Aguero is the perfect nemesis of the newly-promoted side.

With a late goal against Sheffield United, Aguero has now been involved in 43 goals against as many newly promoted teams.

#5 Manchester United need a striker

With Marcus Rashford injured and Anthony Martial in a poor run of form, Manchester United are looking for a striker. Ole did not replace the goals of Romelu Lukaku and has had to pay a heavy price over the course of the season.

Their hunt is expected to gather pace after a shameful 0-2 home defeat against Burnley. Though they had 24 shots, only 7 of them were in goal. Hence, a goal-poacher might be able to help their cause and is the need of the hour.
