Leicester City eyeing a swoop for former Bundesliga goal-getter: A shrewd move by Rodgers?

Leicester City are reportedly keen on securing the signature of German attacker Max Kruse in the January transfer window.

Kruse moved to Turkish side Fenerbahce only in the summer from Werder Bremen, and could already be on his way out.

As per journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, the Premier League club, along with Real Betis and Bayer Leverkusen, are interested in signing him.

But, the report further says that Kruse may not want to leave the club. Fenerbahce might sell him because of their current financial situation.

Kruse’s current deal with the club expires only in 2022. The German has scored three times and made five assists in 13 league games this season for Fenerbahce.

The former Monchengladbach forward, who has played 14 times for the national team, had a good career in the Bundesliga, playing for several teams in Germany’s top-flight.

Max Kruse to Leicester City – A shrewd move?

A few years ago, Kruse was highly-regarded in Germany and scored and assisted consistently. The attacker, who can play as a striker, a second striker, or an attacking midfielder, is a clever player who can play in between the lines and influence the attack.

Kruse has great vision and technical ability to pick out passes in the final third, while also dropping deep into midfield to spray passes – long and short – to teammates.

The German averages 2 key passes per game in the league this season, while he also shoots often, averaging 3.1 shots per game in the league. Kruse averages 1.5 long balls per game in the league this season, often trying to switch play.

Leicester City have hit a stumbling block lately and have dropped vital points which has pushed them to third in the league.

The Foxes need to up their game if they want to finish in the top four, and perhaps need some fresh blood up front. Kruse could be a shrewd signing, who could link up well with the experienced Jamie Vardy.

The 31-year-old German could play in a withdrawn role to feed passes to Vardy as well as Leicester’s talented wide players, while he could also be a useful option from the bench if manager Brendan Rodgers persists with the same team.
