Everton Eyeing A Deal To Bring In Versatile Serie A Ace: How Will He Strengthen Them?

Everton are looking to sign Uruguayan midfielder Matias Vecino in order to strengthen their midfield, as per reports.

Calciomercato.com have claimed that the Toffees are willing to compete with Spanish Primera Liga side Sevilla to acquire Vecino’s signature.

Currently with Italian side Inter Milan, Vecino is on the transfer list and could leave the club before the winter transfer window closes.

Inter Milan are playing an exciting brand of football under Conte. They are giving Juventus a run for their all their worth. With the Serie A title race is heating up, Conte knows that he needs to bring in some quality players in order to lift some silverware come the end of the season.

However, owing to financial fair play obligations, they will need to free up some cash through sales. Vecino is one of the players who Conte deems as excess.

This has caught the attention of both Sevilla and Everton. Newly appointed Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti is eager to improve Everton’s midfield, so Vecino is an option.

Matias Vecino: How will he strengthen Everton?

Matias Vecino is a vastly experienced campaigner, who can play equally well in multiple positions. Though primarily a central midfielder, he can be used both as a defensive shield, and as an attacking option.

Everton are currently dealing with a lot of injuries, and most of them are pertaining to their midfielders. Both Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin are nursing major injuries.

Hence, Ancelotti is willing to bring in an experienced campaigner to strengthen his side. Vecino, who started his professional career at Central Espanol, has enormous experience in the Serie A.

He has been a regular at Fiorentina and Empoli. Inter had to shell out €24million in 2017 to acquire his signature.

Since then, the midfielder has represented the Nerazzuri 88 times, and has scored 10 goals in the process. He is also one of the main figures in Oscar Tabarez’s Uruguayan side, having represented his country 41 times.

Ancelotti’s midfield is lacking an anchor. Vecino might bridge the gap between Everton’s defence and attack. Given that Inter are desperate to arrange funds, Vecino might be available for a decent price.

Although business in the January usually ends up with overpaid transfer fees, Everton might get Vecino for a good fee and will have a pretty versatile player to build their midfield around.
