Leicester City Plotting £30m Move For French Forward: Ideal Option For Rodgers

Leicester City could make a move for Celtic’s highly-rated striker Odsonne Edouard in the future. The Foxes’ current manager Brendan Rodgers managed Edouard when he was in charge of the Scottish giants and has lavished praise on the Frenchman previously.

As per Daily Record, Rodgers could make a bid of around £30 million to bring the 21-year-old to the Premier League. The report states that Rodgers will make a bid for him only at the end of the season and not in January.

Odsonne Edouard joined Celtic from Paris Saint-Germain for a fee of around £9 million, after spending a season on loan at the club. His current deal with Celtic expires in 2022.

In the two and a half seasons that he has been at the club, Edouard has scored 49 goals and provided 27 assists in 112 appearances for the club. The Frenchman has been in superb form for the France U21 team as well, scoring 11 goals in 6 games.

Odsonne Edouard: A good option for Rodgers?

Odsonne Edouard has been in spectacular form for Celtic since signing for them and has shown a lot of promise. The 21-year-old is a strong and powerful striker who is good at holding up the ball and bringing his teammates into play, while also having the intelligence and energy to run in behind defences.

The 6’2″ striker has a great touch and close control and is a good finisher from in and around the penalty box as well. Edouard has ably replaced Moussa Dembele as Celtic’s main striker, and despite his young age, has shown great composure and finishing ability.

He has scored 17 goals in 31 appearances in all competitions in the season, which includes 13 in the Scottish league. Jamie Vardy recently turned 33 years of age, which means that he can’t play two games a week at a consistently high level, where Leicester are currently operating at. Rodgers needs options in attack as the only other option that he has currently to replace Vardy is Kelechi Iheanacho, who has blown hot and cold.

With the Foxes well on course to qualify for the Champions League next season, Rodgers needs a strong squad, with a mix of youth and experienced players to call upon. Odsonne Edouard could be a useful understudy to Vardy at the club, and one that can blossom into a top striker in the Premier League under Brendan Rodgers’ excellent stewardship.
