Manchester United Will Have To Pay €20million To Sign Barcelona Star: A Shrewd Option?

Manchester United are reportedly eyeing another late transfer in the January transfer window, this time for Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic.

The Croatian international has fallen down the pecking order at Nou Camp, and he will be allowed to leave the club.

As per ESPN, the Catalans have made it clear that Rakitic is for sale in the January transfer window, with the report stating that he will be allowed to leave for a fee of €20million.

But, United have not come to an agreement yet, as the Croatian reportedly does not want to move his family away from Spain.

Rakitic has been with Barca since 2014, having joined the club from Sevilla. He has won four league titles as well as a Champions League at the club. The Croatian’s deal with the club expires in 2021 and Barcelona do not want to keep him at the club.

Is Ivan Rakitic the player Manchester United’s midfield needs?

Manchester United have finally agreed a deal to sign Bruno Fernandes, who will strengthen the midfield area.

But, the club needs more quality midfielders, especially in the defensive/central midfield role as they are still yet to replace Ander Herrera. The future of Paul Pogba, as well as the form of Nemanja Matic, makes it even more important for them to get at least one more central midfielder in the next two transfer windows.

Rakitic could be a good signing for Manchester United as a short-term option in midfield. The midfielder will turn 32 in March, which means that Solskjaer can’t build a team around the midfielder.

But, he can certainly be a good option to play alongside Fred and Scott McTominay in the middle of the park, while also adding depth to the midfield area.

The Croatian is a strong passer of the ball, and has the vision to pick out teammates, while also contributing in defence with his tackling and interceptions.

Rakitic’s composure in the midfield will help the team in controlling games, and they need someone of his experience in the middle of the park.

United need experienced players in the team as well as players who can control the tempo of the game as well as retain possession of the ball. Rakitic ticks all those boxes and would be a good signing for United in the January transfer window.
