Tottenham Hotspur Eyeing A Transfer For Ligue 1 Forward: Ideal Option For The Club?

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly trying to sign Algerian forward Islam Slimani in order to solve their goal-scoring problems.

The Leicester City striker is currently enjoying his time at AS Monaco on loan from Premier League side Leicester City.

Jose Mourinho wants is keen on adding another forward, and as per the Telegraph, Slimani is an option Tottenham are considering.

Islam Slimani’s previous record

Slimani started his professional career at JSM Cheraga, but rose to prominence while he has at Sporting Clube de Portugal.

Slimani scored 57 goals in just 109 appearances for Sporting Lisbon. That raised the eyebrows of the then Premier League champions Leicester City. The Foxes decided to strengthen their attack and signed Slimani for £28 million, which was then a club record fee for Leicester City. However, things never actually worked out for Slimani in England.

The striker managed to score only 8 goals in his first season. His second season was mediocre, as he managed to find the back of the net only 4 times.

Slimani was subsequently sent on loan to Newcastle United, but he didn’t get enough chances to prove his mettle. The only way for him to get his career back on track was by leaving England, which he did in 2018.

The target-man has eventually found a temporary home in AS Monaco. Slimani has done a good job for the Ligue 1 side thus far, scoring 7 times in 14 games, but that hasn’t made him the first-choice striker at the club yet as he is behind Wissam Ben-Yedder in the pecking order. This has made him a popular target for short-term repairing of attack.

Islam Slimani: Is he the right temporary option for Spurs?

Tottenham Hotspur are dealing with quite a few injuries, but the most significant of those is Harry Kane’s injury. Spurs charismatic striker is out till at least the end of April with a thigh injury.

Mourinho doesn’t have a viable alternative in the reserve bench either. The other genuine striker that Spurs have in their ranks is Troy Parrott, the teenager who hasn’t got many opportunities thus far.

Spurs, who played in the finals of UEFA Champions League last season, might miss out on the competition next season. They are currently 8th in the points table, 8 points away from top four.

The north Londoners will need to win games to climb up the ladder, and with their shaky defence, they will need to score goals aplenty.

However, neither Lucas Moura not Son Heung-min is a genuine striker. Hence, they both have been unsuccessful as a makeshift centre-forward. Since Spurs are mainly focusing on loan deals, Islam Slimani might be the right man for Jose Mourinho. With his tall structure, Slimani can prove to be a menace in the penalty box.
