Aston Villa Reportedly Closing In On A Move For Proven Goal-Scorer: The Boost They Need?

Aston Villa could make yet another signing in the January transfer window, as the club have been linked with former Liverpool, Manchester City, and Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge.

Sturridge moved to Turkish side Trabzonspor in the summer, but could soon return to the Premier League.

As per Fanatik (via The Sun), Villa have made a bid of £4.2 million for the 30-year-old striker, and the Turkish side may let him leave.

His big wages could persuade Trabzonspor to let him leave for a fee, which would be a good deal for them, having signed him on a free transfer.

Sturridge joined the club in the summer and signed a three-year deal. He has been in great form for the club, scoring 7 goals and 4 assists in 13 games, but has missed games due to injury too.

Is Daniel Sturridge the boost Aston Villa need to survive?

Villa have been unlucky with injuries following their return to the Premier League, with several key players, including summer signing Wesley, missing due to injury.

Wesley is set to miss the rest of the season, which prompted manager Dean Smith to bring in striker Mbwana Samatta from Genk. But, Jonathan Kodjia’s exit means that Villa have just one fit striker in Samatta.

The decision to go after a player of Sturridge’s calibre is a very good one by Villa as the Englishman is a quality player who can get crucial goals for them. The Lions are in a relegation battle and will need all the firepower they can get to stay afloat in the league.

Sturridge’s experience, goal-scoring ability, and link-up play will be a huge boost for Villa. He has shown in Turkey that he still has what it takes to perform and score aplenty.

The only worry for Dean Smith would be Sturridge’s injury record. He has missed almost 15 games this season due to injury, which will be a big concern for Villa.

But, Villa have to take a gamble, sign him and hope he stays injury-free. If the Englishman is fit, he can certainly help Villa stay in the league as he guarantees goals.
