Aston Villa Eyeing A Swoop For Former Liverpool Goal-Getter: A Good Option For Smith?

Aston Villa could make a move for former Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester City striker Daniel Sturridge, who currently plays for Turkish team Trabzonspor.

The Villans could make a move for the English striker following an injury to first-choice striker Wesley.

As per Daily Mail, Sturridge is a target for Villa as well as French side Marseille. Villa have reportedly looked at strikers like Kelechi Iheanacho, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Jarrod Bowen, but various reasons have resulted in them not making a move for any of these three.

The 30-year-old signed a three-year deal with Trabzonspor after joining the club on a free transfer following his release from Liverpool. The experienced forward has been in good form for the Turkish club, scoring 7 times in 13 appearances in all competitions, while also registering 4 assists.

Sturridge left Liverpool at the end of the 2018-19 season after winning the Champions League with the Merseyside club. The Englishman has vast experience of playing in the Premier League, having made over 200 appearances in the league.

Going after Daniel Sturridge – A good decision by Aston Villa?

Daniel Sturridge has struggled with numerous injuries over the years which have resulted in him not being able to fulfil his potential. He did not get much game time last season at Liverpool because of the phenomenal form of Liverpool’s attackers.

He has brushed aside injury concerns to flourish at Trabzonspor in Turkey this season. The move by Villa to sign Sturridge could be a good one as Dean Smith doesn’t have too many options up front.

Wesley, who joined Villa on a club record fee in the summer, hasn’t quite got off to a good start in his first season in the league, and is now injured.

The likes of Jonathan Kodjia and Keinan Davis have either been injured or not afforded opportunities by their manager this season, which suggests that he does not trust them.

Sturridge would bring a wealth of experience and goalscoring to this young Villa side that have talented attackers like Jack Grealish and El Ghazi.

With him having recovered from his injuries, a switch to Villa could be a good move for both parties and he could very well decide Villa’s status in the Premier League for next season.
