After a good win against Sevilla over the weekend, Real Madrid have a much easier fixture (on paper) during the week as they take on Unionistas in the Copa Del Rey. Madrid’s opponents on Wednesday play in the third tier of the Spanish league and will host the Spanish giants.
Madrid were knocked out in the semi-finals stage of the competition last season by arch-rivals Barcelona and will hope to do one better and reach the final and win the competition this time around.
Manager Zinedine Zidane could give several of his younger players in the squad a chance against the Spanish minnows.
Let’s take a look at the possible Real Madrid lineup for the game against Unionistas.
Team News
Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio are training individually. They will most likely not be fit for the Copa Del Rey game, while captain Sergio Ramos – who missed the last game due to an ankle injury – will also not be rushed back.
Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez missed the game against Sevilla, but are back training. They could feature tomorrow.
PREDICTED REAL MADRID LINEUP VS UNIONISTAS (4-3-3)
Goalkeeper
Second choice keeper Alphonse Areola could get the nod ahead of Thibaut Courtois in this cup game.
Defence
Éder Militão and Nacho could start as the two centre-backs, with Nacho replacing Raphaël Varane from the weekend’s game.
We could also see Marcelo given a rest with Ferland Mendy taking his place at left-back in the Real Madrid lineup. Over on the other side, Álvaro Odriozola could start at right-back in place of Dani Carvajal.
Midfield
Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro started in midfield in the win against Sevilla, with Casemiro scoring twice. We could see Modric given a rest with Federico Valverde returning to the team after serving his suspension.
Isco could also start in place of Kroos, while James Rodriguez could play as the furthest forward midfielder in the Real Madrid lineup.
Attack
Luka Jovic could start once again, after putting in a good performance against Sevilla.
Vinícius Júnior could start on the left, with Rodrygo starting on the right.
Gareth Bale is an option on the right for Zidane, while Brahim Diaz is another alternative.
