Crystal Palace are reportedly keeping an eye on AC Milan attacker Fabio Borini, and could make a move for him soon.
The Italian has prior Premier League experience, having played for Chelsea, Liverpool, and Sunderland in England’s top division.
As per MilanNews.It (via Transfer Market Web), Palace had enquired about the availability of the striker, and AC Milan have given a positive reply to Palace. But Palace have to brush off interest from Torino to sign the 28-year-old.
Borini last played in the Premier League with Sunderland in the 2016-17 season, before moving on loan to AC Milan, which was then made into a permanent move.
The Italian’s contract with the club expires at the end of this season, but Milan have the option of extending his deal by a year.
But, it’s unlikely that they will offer him a new contract as he has played just twice this season in the league, one of which was a start. In 75 games for the club, Borini has scored 8 times and made 6 assists.
Fabio Borini is a quick attacker, who can play as a striker or off the striker as a wide player on both wings.
The Italian has a tremendous work-rate that has won over fans in the past, but he is not a prolific goalscorer by any stretch of the imagination. He scored just 16 times in 111 appearances in the Premier League with Chelsea, Liverpool, and Sunderland, which is not a great return.
Borini is a hard-working and versatile attacker, not necessarily the kind of striker that manager Roy Hodgson would want in his side. He already several hard-working midfielders in his team and what he needs is a prolific goalscorer.
A move for Borini may not be hard on the Palace pockets as he is coming to the end of his contract at Milan. But, Palace have a lot in the bank following the sale of Aaron Wan-Bissaka ahead of this season.
They should sign a proven goalscorer, who can score at least 10 goals by the end of the season, by breaking the bank and paying the big bucks. Borini is not the solution to Palace’s goalscoring woes, who have scored just 11 goals in 13 league games this season.
