Premier League side Crystal Palace are reportedly keen on signing Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster on loan in the January transfer window.
Brewster who was part of the England Under-17 side that won the 2017 Under-17 World Cup and ended up being the top scorer of the tournament, made his Liverpool senior debut this season.
According to Bristol Post, Palace, along with Swansea City and Bristol City are interested in signing the 19-year-old striker in January. The Englishman has made two appearances for the Liverpool senior side this season, both coming in the Carabao Cup.
The teenager was previously a part of Chelsea’s youth academy before joining Liverpool in 2014. He has played from the Under-16 age group till the Under-21 age group for England, and won the Golden Boot in the Under-17 World Cup in 2017.
Brewster is yet to receive an opportunity in the Liverpool senior team in the Premier League and Champions League, and will perhaps only have a role to play in the League Cup or the FA Cup.
The teenager is supremely talented and one of the brightest prospects in the Liverpool academy, but with the likes of Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi ahead of him in the pecking order, it is incredibly difficult for Brewster to get a chance in the Liverpool team.
Crystal Palace, meanwhile, could do with a striker in the squad, despite their strong start to the season. The Eagles are 6th in the league with 15 points from 10 games, but they haven’t scored freely this season.
Hodgson’s side have scored just 10 times in 10 games in the league this season, with Jordan Ayew being their top scorer in the league with four goals.
Former Liverpool striker Christian Benteke and Conor Wickham seem to have fallen out of favour under Hodgson, which perhaps hints that he is looking for a new striker.
Brewster could add something different to the Palace team with his pace, energy, work-rate, and his potential goalscoring. The 19-year-old has scored 4 goals in 7 appearances for the Liverpool Under-23 side.
A loan signing would hold no risk for Palace, while the number of options for Hodgson could help Palace finish strongly, perhaps in the top 10 of the league by the end of this season.
