Arsenal Tracking Premier League Defensive Rock: An Ambitious Choice By Emery

Arsenal are going to track Leicester City centre-back Caglar Soyuncu, who has been in tremendous form for the Foxes this season. Soyuncu was previously linked with a move to Arsenal when he was still a part of German club Freiburg.

According to Mirror Football, the Gunners’ scouts will watch Soyuncu when he turns up for Turkey against Iceland this week, with Merih Demiral’s display also being a part of the agenda. Soyuncu joined Leicester City from SC Freiburg in the 2018 summer transfer window but did not get a lot of chances in his first season at the club. He made just 8 appearances in all competitions but has become a vital part of the Leicester side this season, making 13 appearances in all competitions post the departure of Harry Maguire.

Soyuncu has just under four years remaining on his Leicester contract which expires in 2023. The Turkish international has been an important player for his national side since making his debut in 2016, playing 28 times for Turkey.

Caglar Soyuncu: Just the defender the club needs?

Caglar Soyuncu has formed a brilliant partnership at the back with the experienced Jonny Evans, and the duo has led the Foxes to become the best defence in the Premier League. Leicester have conceded just 8 goals in 12 games in the Premier League this season, thanks to the brilliance of Soyuncu and Evans.

The Turkish international has been dominant in the air and on the ground, while also being very good in initiating attacks for his team. Soyuncu has averaged 3.5 headers per game while averaging 2.3 tackles and 5.5 clearances per game for the Foxes in the league this season. He has also been very resourceful in keeping the ball, averaging 69.6 passes per game with a pass completion rate of 87.8%. He is an all-round defender that can defend, pass, and attack.

Caglar Soyuncu would certainly make Arsenal a much stronger side defensively, but the Gunners will have to pay a huge transfer fee to prise him from the Foxes. It also remains to be seen if Soyuncu would want to leave a club on the rise like Leicester City, for a club that is experiencing all sorts of problems in Arsenal.
