3 Players Newcastle Should Target In January To Ensure A Mid-Table Finish | Opinion

Newcastle United have had an upturn in form since their dreadful start of the 2019-20 season, but manager Steve Bruce will know that he still has a lot to do to keep them in the league. The Magpies are 13th in the league table with 15 points, 7 points above the relegation zone.

We could see them be quite active in the January transfer window, with several players likely to exit the club. We could also maybe see one or two players that come in, to add depth and quality to the side.

Let’s take a look at 3 players Newcastle United should target in January to ensure a mid-table finish

3 players Newcastle United should target in January

#1 Jarrod Bowen

Steve Bruce will know all about Hull City’s prolific winger Jarrod Bowen. Bowen was signed by the Tigers when Bruce was the manager of the club and we could see the Newcastle boss swoop in to sign him.

Bowen, who is a winger, has already got to 9 goals this season in the Championship from 16 games, while also registering 2 assists. He ended last season with 22 goals in all competitions and 15 goals in the season prior to last.

He is a quick winger who likes to drift inside and get into dangerous positions. A brilliant finisher and dribbler, Bowen could provide competition to the likes of Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin on the flank.

#2 Mbwana Samatta

Another player who has been in the goals this season is Genk striker Mbwana Samatta. The 26-year-old scored a whopping 32 goals in all competitions last season and has got 8 goals this season in all competitions, including 2 in the Champions League.

Samatta is the captain of the Tanzanian national team as well as Genk, and is a player who is quick and likes to play on the shoulder of the opposition defenders.

He could provide some relief to Newcastle in the goalscoring front as summer signing Joelinton has struggled for goals, though his overall game-play has not been bad.

#3 Ibrahima Sissoko

The Magpies also need some strength in midfield and they could sign Strasbourg’s Ibrahima Sissoko. The 22-year-old is a combative midfielder who likes to break up play and dribble with the ball.

Sissoko is a player that closes down opposition players quickly, while also being a hard-working midfielder.

Newcastle’s midfield has blown hot and cold this season, but the addition of Sissoko could provide the strength and power that it desperately needs.
