Ritchie In, Willems Out | Predicted 5-4-1 Newcastle United Lineup vs Wolves

Newcastle United could not replicate their result against Manchester United when they took on Chelsea last weekend, but the Magpies will hope to get back to winning ways this Sunday, when they face Wolves.

Steve Bruce’s side put on a good display against Chelsea, but came away with nothing. There have been signs of progress since the disastrous start to the season, and Newcastle could kick on with a good result against Wolves as they have a few winnable games after Sunday’s fixture.

Bruce has an almost full-strength squad to choose from for the game against Wolves at St. James’ Park.

Goalkeeper

Martin Dubravka put in a solid performance against Chelsea, and will start the game against Wolves on Sunday.

Defence

The defensive trio of Fabian Schär, Jamaal Lascelles, and Ciaran Clark put on yet another good performance against Chelsea, after their strong showing against Manchester United. Clark, in particular, was very good against the Blues.

Bruce should retain the trio for the game against Wolves. Florian Lejeune has returned to training, but it will be a while before he makes the Newcastle United lineup.

Jetro Willems and DeAndre Yedlin had average games against Chelsea, and we could possibly see Bruce make a change at wing-back. Matt Ritchie could possibly replace Willems at left wing-back after recovering from his injury.

Midfield

The Longstaff brothers – Sean and Matty – put on a decent show against Chelsea, as the two central midfielders were lively and got about the pitch. They should retain their places in the starting XI. Isaac Hayden will serve the last of his three-game suspension and will miss the game against Wolves.

Miguel Almiron looked lively and possibly Newcastle’s best threat going forward against Chelsea. The Paraguayan should start on the right for the Magpies against Wolves, and will hope to end his goal drought this Sunday. Allan Saint-Maximin also had a promising game against Chelsea, but he needs to be consistent and deliver goals and assists. He will start on the left for the Magpies.

Attack

Joelinton had a poor game against Chelsea, but he should retain his place in the team as Newcastle’s backup options up front are not good enough.
