Creative La Liga Ace Wanted By Manchester United: Why A Potential Move Makes Sense

Real Madrid attacker Martin Odegaard is reportedly a target for Premier League side Manchester United, who are one of many clubs interested in signing him.

The Norwegian is currently on loan at Real Sociedad, and has started the season off very well for the Basque club.

According to The Sun, Odegaard has attracted interest from the Red Devils, who are managed by fellow Norwegian Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. But, the 20-time English champions will have to stave off interest from fellow Premier League sides Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal, who are also keen on signing the 20-year-old.

The report further states that these teams believe that Madrid could sell him for £25 million at the end of the season.

Odegaard joined the Spanish giants from Strømsgodset at the age of 16, but has made just two appearances for the senior side. He has been loaned out to Dutch sides Heerenveen and Vitesse in the last two years, and move to Spanish club Real Sociedad at the start of this season.

He has scored twice and assisted twice so far for the club, which has resulted in reports (h/t AS) suggesting manager Zinedine Zidane could recall him.

Why moving for Odegaard makes sense for Manchester United

Odegaard is a fine talent, who trained with some of Europe’s biggest clubs before the move to Real Madrid. His move to the Spanish giants hasn’t quite gone as planned, but he is finally showing what he is truly capable of at Sociedad.

The 20-year-old is a smart player who can thread through balls and passes through the opposition defence, thanks to his good technical ability and vision.

Odegaard is also a fantastic dribbler of the ball, moving in from out wide to central areas of the pitch. This season, he has played in his favoured central position, playing as either a central midfielder, or further forward as an attacking midfielder.

Solskjaer should certainly make a move for Odegaard as he would fit perfectly in the No. 10 role in the Manchester United manager’s current system, which is a weak point in the side currently.

The likes of Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata have not been very impressive in that role lately, and Solskjaer needs a player that can drive the team, link midfield and attack, and be fearless when on the ball.

At 20 years of age, Odegaard is one for the present and the future, and could make United a much better side than they are now.
