Best Liverpool XI So Far This Season: Henderson Makes The Cut In Midfield

Liverpool have got off to a dream start in the 2019-20 Premier League season, and are the only team in the league to be undefeated after 8 games. Jurgen Klopp’s men have won all their 8 games this season scoring 20 goals and conceding just 6. The Reds already have an 8-point lead over Manchester City in the league as Pep Guardiola’s side have already endured two defeats and a draw this season.

The league leaders have done exceedingly well despite losing goalkeeper Alisson to an injury at the start of the season.

But, the Merseyside club’s players have taken their performances up another notch from last season.

Let’s take a look at Liverpool’s best XI so far.

Goalkeeper

Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper, Alisson, suffered an injury in the first game of the season against Norwich City and has been out since. The Brazilian was replaced by former West Ham United goalkeeper Adrian, who has done well so far.

Defence

Virgil van Dijk has continued his superlative form from last season, showing that the last campaign was not a fluke. The Dutchman has played all 8 Premier League games this season, while his partner at the back, Joel Matip, has played 6 of the 8 games.

Matip has stepped up this season, getting on the scoresheet twice this season in all competitions, while also being steady at the back.

Liverpool’s flying full-backs, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson, have also been in superb form this season, registering two assists apiece, while Alexander-Arnold has also scored a goal.

Midfield

The midfield trio of Fabinho, Georginio Wijnaldum, and captain Jordan Henderson are three of the hardest-working players in the Liverpool team and have offered something going forward and in defence.

The trio makes up Liverpool’s midfield in this best XI. Experienced midfielder James Milner has also been good in the few opportunities that he has, scoring once and making two assists this season.

Attack

Liverpool’s attack of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah tormented defences last season, and they began where they left off from last year this season.

The trio has 12 goals between them while registering 7 assists together. All three attackers complement each other very well and are vital for Liverpool’s successes this season.
