Barcelona eyeing a swoop for fleet-footed Bundesliga magician: A top option for the club

Barcelona are reportedly tracking Schalke’s Amine Harit, who is one of the most exciting talents in the Bundesliga.

The French-born Moroccan international has impressed for the German club since signing for them in 2017, scoring 8 times and 14 assists in 69 appearances across all competitions.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Harit was recently scouted by Barcelona’s Ramon Planes, who is the right-hand man to the director of football Eric Abidal.

The Barca executive was at a recent match between Hoffenheim and Schalke, where the former won 2-0, in a game that Harit started. Harit has been in great form this year, scoring four times and assisting twice in 8 Bundesliga games.

The 22-year-old was previously a part of Paris Saint-Germain and Nantes’ youth teams, before coming through the ranks at Nantes. He earned a move to Germany and Schalke in 2012, for a fee of €8 million. Harit’s current contract with the German club expires in 2021, having signed a four-year deal when he joined.

The midfielder represents Morocco and has played 10 games since debuting in 2017. Harit picked up the Bundesliga rookie of the year in 2018, and recently won the player of the month award for Schalke after his impressive performances in September.

Why Amine Harit would be a top option for the club

Harit is an exciting midfielder who can play in multiple positions across midfield. The 22-year-old has primarily plays as a central midfielder, but can play off the left, or even further forward in the No. 10 role.

A skillful dribbler of the ball, Harit has the technique and composure to glide past opposition players, while he has also has pace to catch the opposition off guard.

The midfielder has averaged 2.3 dribbles per game this season in the league, while playing 2.1 key passes per game.

His dribbling, vision, and pace would make him a useful option for the Barcelona midfield, although he may not quite have many first-team opportunities.

The Catalan giants already have another exciting young player in Frenkie de Jong, who also plays in midfield, while Brazilian, Arthur, has also been impressive this season.

But, with the likes of Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal not having a future at the club, Harit could be a useful backup option to Arthur or de Jong in midfield.

The Moroccan international is only 22 and has the talent to improve and become a very good player in the future.
