Tottenham Hotspur spent big in the summer transfer window, signing new players for the first time in over a year, but the North London club have not hit their stride yet in the 2019-20 season.

Spurs may strengthen further in the January transfer window and bring in a few players to revitalise their squad which needs a serious overhaul.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino may want to get rid of a few players who don’t have much to offer or aren’t good enough to compete at the top of the Premier League.

Victor Wanyama

Kenyan defensive midfielder Victor Wanyama was once touted to become one of the best in his position in the Premier League, but poor form and a knee injury kept him out of action last season.

Wanyama was rumoured to leave the club in the summer, with Belgian club Club Brugge interested in signing him.

But the deal did not go through and Wanyama has stayed at Spurs, playing twice in the Premier League, coming on from the bench.

The 28-year-old could be sold as Spurs have several options in the defensive midfield role, including the likes of Harry Winks, Eric Dier, and Tanguy Ndombele.

Danny Rose

Danny Rose has been on the transfer list at Spurs for a while, with no takers for him in the summer transfer window.

The English left-back has been at the club for over a decade, having joined the club in 2017 from Leeds United, but it seems that his time at the club is up.

Ben Davies is an option for Pochettino at the left-back position, as is 19-year-old Ryan Sessegnon, who signed from Fulham in the summer, and can play as a left-back or a left midfielder.

Christian Eriksen

Tottenham have three key players in the final year of their contract at Spurs – Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, and Christian Eriksen. While Alderweireld and Vertonghen are on the wrong side of 30, Eriksen is in the prime of his career.

The Danish attacking midfielder could be sold in January instead of him leaving in the summer, with the likes of Dele Alli and Giovani Lo Celso capable of playing in his position.

Spurs had also tracked Sporting Lisbon attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes in the summer, but the deal fell through.

Fernandes has expressed his desire to play in England which could mean that Spurs could sign Fernandes to replace Eriksen.
