Tottenham Hotspur eyeing a swoop for this English ace: Shrewd move in the offing

Tottenham Hotspur signed highly-rated left-back/left winger Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham in the summer transfer window, and could make a move for his twin brother Steven, who also plays for Fulham.

Steven, like his brother Ryan, has come through the Fulham academy and has played a few games this season for the Cottagers in the Championship.

The Sun have reported that Spurs made a bid of around £3 million for Sessegnon, which was rejected when making the £25 million bid for Ryan Sessegnon in the summer transfer window, but they could return with another bid soon.

Like Ryan, Steven is also a full-back, but plays on the opposite side, on the right, but can also play at centre-back and even midfield. His contract with the Championship side expires in 2022, with Fulham having the option to extend it by another season.

He was recently called up to the England Under-21 squad for the games against Kosovo and Turkey after good performances for Fulham in the Championship.

Shrewd move to go after Steven Sessegnon?

Sessegnon hasn’t quite had the meteoric rise to the top that his twin brother Ryan had, but the talented teenager is someone who could improve a lot in the future. He is good going forward from the right-back spot and is calm when in possession of the ball.

A very good passer of the ball, the youngster can build from the back with his neat passing and supplement the attack when required. He has made an average of 72.3 passes per game in the Championship so far, while completing 88.2% of all his passes.

Sessegnon is also good defensively, even doing well at centre-back for Fulham’s youth teams despite his short stature.

He has made an average of 2.3 tackles and 1.5 interceptions per game this season. The 19-year-old could be a very shrewd signing for Spurs as he could develop into a very good player.

Spurs currently do not have too many options at right-back, with Kyle Walker-Peters the first-choice right-back, while Serge Aurier has fallen out of favour with manager Mauricio Pochettino.

With Pochettino’s record of moulding and developing young players, Tottenham could be the ideal place for Steven Sessegnon to grow as a footballer, alongside his brother.
