Tottenham could consider returning for Argentine superstar: Final piece in the jigsaw?

One of the big names that Tottenham Hotspur were pursuing in the summer transfer window was that of Juventus attacker Paulo Dybala, who was also linked with a move to Manchester United. Spurs could once again target the signing of Dybala in the January transfer window, as per Football.London.

The report states that the north London side could return to pursue the signature of Dybala, but it depends on how much game time the Argentine receives at Juventus, as well as the image-right issue that reportedly ended negotiations between Spurs and Juventus earlier this summer.

Dybala has fallen down the pecking order at Juventus following the return of Gonzalo Higuain, as well as the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo, and several wingers in the squad. The Argentinian, who joined Juventus from Palermo in 2015, has three years remaining on his current contract with The Old Lady.

In the on-going season, Dybala has featured in just one match, a 14-minute cameo against Napoli.

Dybala: Final piece in the jigsaw?

The signing of Paulo Dybala would make Spurs a very good team going forward and could be the start of a lethal front three featuring Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dybala. Add to that mix the likes of attacking midfielders in Christian Eriksen (if he stays at the club), Dele Alli, and Giovani Lo Celso, Spurs could indeed be a frightening prospect for teams in England even if their star player Eriksen ends up making an exit in the coming windows.

Spurs have had a rocky start to the 2019-20 Premier League season, losing at home to Newcastle United, drawing against Arsenal and Manchester City, and winning against newly-promoted side, Aston Villa. Mauricio Pochettino’s side have found it extremely difficult to penetrate the defensive ranks of the opposition in the final third in games where teams have sat back and defended, which could be an area where they would need a clever passer and finisher like Dybala.

Dybala could be a part of a three-man attack that could have the freedom to switch positions, play balls in behind the defence, and play intricate passes to catch the opposition off guard.

The Argentine is capable of playing in a few positions – out wide on the right, cutting in; as a second striker, supplying balls to the attack as well as linking attack and midfield; and also as a striker. His versatility, quality, and age would make him a very good signing for Spurs, and his signing will become even more important if Spurs lose Christian Eriksen in the January transfer window.

He could take a significant load off of Harry Kane’s shoulder and will add some much-needed aura to the Spurs team which might just be in need of that extra dose of a world-class topping to the already impressive delicacy Pochettino has managed to prepare in north London.
