In just over 48 hours after their nail-biting 3-2 win over Aston Villa in their last Premier League game, Arsenal will turn their attention to the EFL Cup where they are due to face Nottingham Forest in the third round tie on Tuesday.
Arsenal manager Unai Emery is expected to rotate his side heavily for the clash against the Reds at the Emirates Stadium.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles received a red card at the weekend against the Villans and the right-back will miss the upcoming fixture due to suspension.
Alexandre Lacazette is nursing his injury to the left ankle and will not be available for selection. The French striker is expected to be back in October.
However, Rob Holding, Kieran Tierney, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Hector Bellerin are back in full training.
Defence
Emiliano Martinez is likely to be summoned to start between the sticks in the cup fixture. He did well against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League game last week.
Rob Holding will look to start in the central defence alongside Shkodran Mustafi. Holding’s return should help the team as they have been abject at the back.
While Calum Chambers could start at right-back, we might see Tierney making his first appearance for the Gunners following his £25 million move from Celtic in the summer.
Midfield
Lucas Torreira and Joe Willock are likely to start in the central midfield. Willock has shown a lot of promise, and he will want to leave a mark on the game.
Former German international Mesut Ozil could come into the starting lineup and operate as the central attacking midfielder. He has been on the fringes, and it is about time he steps up.
Attack
It has been a hectic month for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and he is expected to get a breather. It could be an opportunity for youth team striker Tyreece John-Jules to start up front against the Tricky Trees.
Reiss Nelson and Gabriel Martinelli could start on the flanks. The two are quick and have a lot of potential, but they will need to perform in the cup games if they are to push the first-team regulars.
