3 Manchester United Stars Hated The Most By Their Own Fans | Opinion

The post-Alex Ferguson years at Old Trafford have been rather dreary for Manchester United fans, who have been downbeat at how things have gone sour very quickly at the Theatre of Dreams.

After Jose Mourinho’s failure to bring the league title back to Manchester United, club favourite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over the job, and after a very positive start, the Norwegian manager’s fortunes sank and United are back to square one again.

The fans have backed the manager, just like they backed Mourinho, but there are a few players that have bore the brunt of the hate.

Let’s take a look at 3 Manchester United players hated the most by their own fans:

#3 Ashley Young

It’s easy to forget that Ashley Young has been at Manchester United for eight seasons, having been signed by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2011 and making over 240 appearances.

The 34-year-old, who began his career as a winger, before being converted into a full-back that can play on the right and left.

The most experienced player in the current United squad, the one-time Premier League winner is not the most loved player at Old Trafford.

Young is often accused of not delivering good crosses into the box and even passes, while being poor defensively as well. Fans were surprised to see him still at the club after the summer transfer window as they don’t think his performances will improve anytime soon.

#2 Phil Jones

English defender Phil Jones has been at Old Trafford for almost a decade, having joined the club back in the 2010 summer transfer window.

Jones, who is 27 years of age, was touted to be a future legend at the club by former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, but it has not turned out the way Jones or Ferguson would have liked for the former Blackburn Rovers player.

Jones is probably fifth choice centre-back at Old Trafford, behind the likes of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, and even youngster Axel Tuanzebe.

Like Young, many United fans feel that Jones no longer has what it takes to be a success at Old Trafford and he showed be moved on.

#1 Jesse Lingard

Jesse Lingard is one of the many Manchester United players who have come through their famed youth academy.

The English attacker had a promising 2017-18 season, where he scored 13 goals in the season, but Lingard’s performances have since dropped significantly.

A damning stat of Lingard’s year is that he hasn’t scored or assisted in the 2019 calendar year, which has resulted in fans demanding he be replaced, while his rather outgoing, flashy lifestyle has resulted in fans hating him.
