Diop Has A Shocker: West Ham United Player Ratings In 0-5 Loss To Manchester City

West Ham United were battered by Manchester City earlier today at the London Stadium as Pep Guardiola’s side mustered a stupendous 5-0 win in what was the opening Premier League fixture for both the sides.

A goal each from Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero and a hat-trick by Raheem Sterling ensured that Manuel Pellegrini’s side got off to another poor start to a season.

Here are our West Ham United player ratings from what transpired earlier today.

Lukasz Fabianski 5/10

The custodian did well to deny Riyad Mahrez from scoring early on and also saved Aguero’s cancelled penalty. However, he conceded five goals despite making some good saves.

Ryan Fredericks 5/10

Fredericks flattered to deceive with his crossing and his defensive skills were below par.

Fabian Balbuena 4/10

He was tormented by Kevin De Bruyne as the latter operated with a lot of pace and cunningness and was simply too good for the defender.

Issa Diop 3/10

Diop was all over the place and was far from convincing. He should have done better for Manchester City’s first goal and he also conceded a penalty, to sum up his shambolic outing.

Aaron Cresswell 5/10

He was beaten by Kyle Walker time and again and will have to fight for his place in the team going forward.

Jack Wilshere 5/10

The former Arsenal man had a tough time while dealing with Rodri but there were certainly some moments of sheer brilliance from him which we have come to see. Needs to be more consistent, though.

Declan Rice 7/10

Rice was unarguably the best player for Hammers today as he kept toiling relentlessly and made some decent tackles and interceptions.

Michail Antonio 4/10

He wasn’t effective and it was due to his inability to put pressure on Walker which exposed Cresswell, leading to his substitution at half-time.

Manuel Lanzini 6/10

Due to the fact that he didn’t see a lot of the ball, the Irons couldn’t really get going in the final third. Nonetheless, he was tidy when in possession.

Felipe Anderson 6/10

During the first half, the Brazilian thrived with a lot of pace and power but lacked the end product. However, he looked out of touch after the interval and went off the pitch with an injury.

Sebastien Haller 6/10

Difficult league debut for the star signing. Wasn’t provided much service and had a tough time dealing with Laporte and Rodri.

Substitutions

Pablo Fornals 5/10

Fornals took some time to settle after he came on for Antonio after the break but added a bit more spice in the opposition half.

Robert Snodgrass 5/10

He came on for Wilshere but was well contained by Zinchenko.

Javier Hernandez 4/10

Hernandez replaced Anderson but couldn’t really make any tangible impact.
