Newcastle United lost narrowly to Arsenal in their opening game of the 2019-20 season, but have the chance to change that against Norwich City.
Norwich City will be no pushovers as they did test Liverpool despite losing the game 4-1. The Canaries played an aggressive style that gave Liverpool space, but they also managed to breach the Reds’ defence several times.
Let’s take a look at the possible Newcastle United lineup for the game against Norwich.
Martin Dubravka will continue in goal for Newcastle United and made a few good saves against Arsenal.
Fabian Schär and Jamaal Lascelles will certainly start for the Magpies as part of the three-man defence, but we could maybe see Bruce dropping Paul Dummett for the game against Norwich City and replacing him with Federico Fernández.
Jonjo Shelvey had a good game against Arsenal, coming very close to scoring a goal. He was then brought off due to an injury, but it seems like he will be fit to play against Norwich City after returning to training.
Isaac Hayden and Sean Longstaff will most likely retain their places in central midfield and partner Shelvey at the centre of the park.
Matt Ritchie also put on a fine display against Arsenal, playing in the wide left position, and then moving to a central role after the entry of new signing Jetro Willems.
Ritchie will continue on the left side, and we could see Bruce start new signing Allan Saint-Maximin on the right, who excited the Newcastle fans with his direct dribbling and pace. He could start in the wide right position, and join up with the two strikers of Newcastle to form a three-pronged attack.
Saint-Maximin is not known for his defending, and so the central midfield players will have to secure Newcastle’s right when the Magpies don’t have the ball.
Joelinton and Miguel Almiron will most likely start as the two strikers for Newcastle United on Saturday, and hope to develop a partnership.
Almiron looked lively in the game against Arsenal, but needs to provide assists and goals soon.
