Watford had a disappointing start to the Premier League campaign as the poor form from the end of last season continued, succumbing to a 0-3 defeat at home to Brighton & Hove Albion. The Hornets had a dreadful game and they will hope to rectify that performance in this weekend’s game against Everton at Goodison Park.
Javi Gracia has no injury concerns and has a full squad to select from for this weekend’s game.
Ben Foster will continue in goal despite being partly at fault for the last two goals that Watford conceded against Brighton.
The Watford defence against Brighton was abysmal, and new signing Craig Dawson had a torrid time. We could perhaps see one of Dawson or Craig Cathcart replaced with Christian Kabasele. I think Gracia could take Dawson out of the firing line and keep Cathcart in the team.
Jose Holebas and Kiko Femenia played at left-back and right-back against Brighton, respectively. Holebas could continue in the left-back position, while Femenia may be replaced by Daryl Janmaat in the team.
Abdoulaye Doucoure and Etienne Capoue were also poor in the game against Brighton, but they could retain their places in the central midfield position for the game against Everton. Both are hard-working midfielders who had a good 2018-19 season, and they will hope that they can regain that form sooner rather than later.
Further ahead on the pitch, Roberto Pereyra could start the game against Everton after being on the bench for the first game. He was brought on in the second half against Brighton but could make a big impact on the team. New signing Ismaïla Sarr has joined training with the club only this past week and it may take him a few weeks to get a chance to play for the club. We could see Will Hughes continue on the right side for Watford.
Troy Deeney will lead the attack for Watford against Everton, and he could be joined by Gerard Deulofeu, who played in a deeper role against Brighton. Danny Welbeck could be involved in the game, but he may only make the bench.
