Man United superstar still keen on leaving Old Trafford: What should Ole do?

The Paul Pogba transfer situation is not resolved as things stand, despite the Premier League transfer window shutting. The Frenchman is apparently still keen on leaving Old Trafford before the transfer window closes in other leagues in Europe, on September 2nd.

According to the latest report in Marca, Pogba wants to leave the club and join Madrid before the transfer window shuts next month but he realises that moving this summer will be difficult. The report further states that United’s comfortable win against Chelsea has not changed his stance and that he and his agent, Mino Raiola, will have a meeting with the club soon to talk about his desire to leave Old Trafford.

Pogba has reportedly told the club previously that he wants to leave, but the report also states that he will not “force things” for the move to happen. All through the summer, there have been reports of Pogba leaving the club with Manchester United reportedly demanding around £200 million for him. Pogba has stayed and played the first match of the Premier League season against Chelsea, helping the Red Devils to a 4-0 win.

What should United do?

Manchester United should not sell Paul Pogba in this transfer window as they are short of players in the central midfield area, while they also do not have players of his ilk in the squad. The Frenchman is one of a few world-class players in the Manchester United squad and it would be foolish of them to let him go at this point in time when the transfer window is shut in England, regardless of the transfer fee in question.

Instead, Pogba and Manchester United could have a handshake agreement where Pogba will get his move to Madrid – if the Spanish giants agree to the transfer fee set by United – next summer, or even the January transfer window if the English club can sign a suitable replacement for him.

United have lost two central midfielders in the last two transfer windows – Marouane Fellaini in the January transfer window and Ander Herrera in the summer transfer window – and haven’t bought any players to replace either of them. The club will be in deep trouble if they sell Pogba as they will be left with the likes of Scott McTominay, Andreas Pereira, Nemanja Matic, and Fred, in midfield positions – none of them who are anywhere near the quality of Paul Pogba which makes this deal in the summer a non-starter from United’s point of view.
