Napoli to launch a bid of £60m for Everton target: What should be the Toffees’ play?

Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha looks set to leave the club, with Everton the latest Premier League side linked with a move for him, after Arsenal were baulked by the price tag.

Now, Italian club Napoli are reportedly interested in signing the winger, who previously played for Manchester United.

Napoli manager Carlo Ancelotti has shortlisted Zaha after the Italian club lost out in the race to sign Nicolas Pepe, who has joined Arsenal.

Daily Mail have reported that the Italian side are willing to make a bid of £60 million for the Ivory Coast international. The report further indicates that Zaha would be interested in a move outside England, and his wish of playing in the Champions League could be fulfilled by signing with Napoli.

The 26-year-old winger, who has come through the Crystal Palace academy before moving to Manchester United and returning back to the club, had a good 2018-19 season, scoring 10 times and assisting 10 times in the season.

Zaha extended his contract with The Eagles last year and his current deal with the club will only expire in 2023.

Should Everton up their bid for Zaha?

It seems that Everton are desperate to add a winger to their side, as they have also been recently linked with a move for Barcelona’s Malcom, who is to join Russian club Zenit St. Petersburg.

The Toffees do not need a winger at the moment as they have three first-team wingers in the squad. Everton’s priority will be to sign a replacement for defensive midfielder Idrissa Gueye, who has joined French side Paris Saint-Germain.

Zaha is a good player for most Premier League sides, but he’s not worth a price tag of £60 million – or more, which could be the case if Palace are unwilling to sell him.

Everton manager Marco Silva should focus on signing a defensive midfielder, as well as a central defender, as the club currently have only two quality first-team defenders in Michael Keane and Yerry Mina.

Everton should not return with another bid for Wilfried Zaha in this transfer window, and they should pursue other targets, while also strengthening other areas of the pitch.
