Man United star attacker attracting interest from Serie A: What should Ole do here?

Manchester United may no longer be able to sign any of their transfer targets this summer but they could yet lose a few of the players in their squad to other clubs outside England.

The transfer window in most leagues will remain open till the end of the month and the Red Devils could lose yet another attacker in Alexis Sanchez, who is wanted by AS Roma, claim reports from Telegraph.

The Italian outfit want Sanchez on a year-long loan, which will need United to pay a part of the player’s wages. So does this deal make any sense for United?

Sanchez’s Chances Under Solskjaer

Having joined the Old Trafford outfit in January last year, Sanchez was made the highest earner at the club and the league but his performances have certainly not justified the wages United pay for him.

Since Solskjaer’s appointment as the Manchester United manager, Sanchez has registered just a goal and two assists in 15 appearances across all competitions, most of them coming from the bench.

The likes of Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard were preferred to Sanchez on the wings while the manager has made it clear that the French international is an option to lead the attack for United, in the absence of Romelu Lukaku.

However, Marcus Rashford and Juan Mata are the only other senior attacking options in the side so the former Arsenal playmaker may yet get his chances, albeit irregularly, in the first team at Old Trafford.

He can play on the wings, can act as a false-9 and does have the ability to score crucial goals for his side. So surely, Sanchez will be used more frequently next season, if he stays put.

Can They Do Without Sanchez?

Manchester United are one of the richest clubs in the world at the moment. So it is hard to see them make transfer decisions taking into account the wages they pay to a player.

Sanchez, though the highest earner at the club, is yet to make a mark in United colours. He is now 30 and has just a couple of years of his best, left in his football career.

He may not be the man Solskjaer turns to next season but with the congested fixture list for clubs in England, the depth Sanchez adds is pretty important.

Manchester United would ideally want to off-load Sanchez completely from their books but if they are to subsidize a part of his wages at Roma, it makes more sense for the English giants to have the attacker in their roster for another season.
