In what will surely be one of the most entertaining games of the first week of Premier League action this season, Leicester City welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to the King Power this weekend. Both teams have made smart additions to their squad in the summer and will believe that they can start the campaign with all three points from this game.
Brendan Rodgers’ men have not lost a single pre-season game and will look to continue their good form against Wolves. But Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were hard to beat last season and have only grown stronger and will be going into the game after a morale-boosting 4-0 away win in Europe.
There are a number of exciting matchups all around the field in this much-awaited clash but here are three key battles that could decide the outcome of this game:
The England international is easily one of the best strikers in the league. He will be the danger man for Wolves in this game but skipper Connor Coady will believe that he can mark Vardy out of this game. Coady is strong in the air and will be happy to match Vardy in a foot race. This matchup was interesting to watch last season and if Vardy can get the better of the Wolves defender, Leicester City are surely in with a chance to start this season with all three points.
The Portuguese international scored 13 league goals last season and was at times almost impossible to contain. His movement and finishing will be tough for Leicester City to handle and they will need all the experience of Wes Morgan to keep him in check. Jimenez has the ability to make things happen in and around the box and if he can trouble the Foxes backline regularly, he is certainly going to test them, especially in the absence of their main defender.
But the biggest clash in this game, that can decide the outcome, is Diogo Jota’s hustle with Ndidi. The Leicester City midfielder is a smart operator and will look to break up play in front of the defence. But Jota is an excellent dribbler and if he is allowed to run at the backline, he could create havoc and take the game away from the Foxes. So Ndidi should make sure that Jota does not get too much time on the ball. The Wolves man scored a hat-trick to win his side the game the last time these two teams met and Leicester City will certainly have to be wary of this threat.
