Everton have agreed a deal with Flamengo to sign midfielder Reinier Jesus, it has been reported.
The Brazilian will join the club in January, when he turns 18, in a deal worth £36 million, according to Esporte Interativo, cited by talkSPORT.
Reinier, who had a contract with the Brazilian side until December 2020, currently plays for Flamengo Under-20 side.
He also made 8 appearances for the Under-17 Brazil national team, where he scored 4 goals across all competitions.
What Reinier would add to the Everton team in the future
The attacking midfielder has turned heads with his performances in Brazil, both domestically and for the national side.
The 17-year-old is a versatile player who primarily features as an attacking midfielder and can ease into a number 10 role, in case the manager requires him.
Reinier is technically astute and a creative advanced playmaker with an exquisite first touch, which is a given for a majority of the Brazilians.
His close control, balance, great first touch, ability to wriggle past defenders using his pace and excellent dribbling skills are some key areas worth noting in the teenager’s style of play.
The Flamengo youngster, who likes a free role in attack, sometimes drops deep to receive the ball, but is most effective in the number 10 role.
His vision and off the ball movement means he not only creates an opportunity for others to score, but also finds himself in goal-scoring positions more often than not, which is always a positive in a midfielder.
The right-footed player, along with his shooting skills also possesses the ability to deliver pinpoint passes and crosses, thanks to his extensive passing range.
The Toffees target’s ability to shield the ball using his strength and clever movement, quick decision making and attitude to take on opposition players without doubting himself shows a great deal of potential.
Reinier, who stands in at 6ft 1in tall, also boasts a decent aerial ability to out-jump opposition players on the field of play.
The Brazilian currently features in a 4-2-3-1 setup, a system similar to that of Everton boss Marco Silva at the Merseyside club.
With Gylfi Sigurdsson soon getting on the wrong side of 30, the teenager can be the perfect successor to the Iceland International in the coming years.
Upon his arrival at the Goodison Park in January, the teenager will have ample time and also have a great opportunity to work as an understudy to the 29-year-old in his formative years in Europe.
