Everton target willing to move: Should the Toffees spend £40million to sign him?

Everton have been in the transfer news a lot over the last few days as they look to wrap up a few important signings before the start of the 2019-20 season.

The Toffees are keen on signing Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha, but that deal may not go through as the Eagles are not budging on their transfer fee. Everton may have shifted their focus on another wide player – Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi.

The Premier League side have reportedly made a bid of £30 million for the Nigerian international, which was rejected by the Gunners.

David Ornstein of BBC has claimed that Everton could make a bigger bid for Iwobi, but the North London club want in excess of £40 million to let go of their player. Iwobi hasn’t pushed for a move, but will leave the club if a deal between the two sides is agreed before the transfer deadline.

Iwobi came through the ranks at Arsenal, having joined the academy back in 2004, and made his debut for the senior team in 2015. The attacker made 51 appearances last season, scoring 6 and making 9 assists for the club in the season.

Should Everton return with a better offer for Alex Iwobi?

It is quite surprising that Everton are interested in a left-sided winger when they already have two wingers in the squad – the Brazilian duo of Richarlison and Bernard.

Perhaps Marco Silva might move Richarlison to the right or a central position, which has resulted in him showing interest in the signing of a left-sided winger.

Iwobi is a talented player who has the potential to be a decent player in the Premier League, but he hasn’t yet shown the consistency to warrant a bid of £30 million, let alone £40+ million bid.

The winger is pacey and his direct running can cause problems to opposition defenders, but he has lacked consistency and hasn’t delivered too many goals and assists.

Everton should not make a bigger bid for the winger in the current transfer window, but instead focus on strengthening in other areas of the pitch where they do not have squad depth, like at centre-back and right-back positions.
