West Ham United linked with a swoop for Spanish midfielder: Pros and cons of signing him

West Ham United are interested in signing Real Betis midfielder Victor Camarasa, it has been reported.

Cardiff were relegated from the Premier League, and Camarasa has subsequently returned to Real Betis after his loan spell came to an end.

The former Beticos manager Quique Setien, who loaned out Camarasa to the Premier League side Cardiff City, is no longer at the club.

New Real Betis manager Rubi sees the 25-year-old as someone he can potentially use, but the La Liga club will be interested in selling Camarasa if they receive a good offer for him, it has been claimed by Spanish website Estadio Deportivo.

West Ham, Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City said to be the clubs interested in the Spanish midfielder.

The Hammers have already signed Pablo Fornals, and could splash the cash for Camarasa as they hope to challenge the top six sides next season.

Let’s look at the pros and cons of the Hammers signing Camarasa this summer:

PROS

Camarasa is a versatile player who features as a central midfielder, and is an all-round midfielder who can do the dirty work as well as attack. The Spaniard is comfortable with the ball at his feet, and a good technical player.

The 25-year-old likes getting forward, but Cardiff’s pragmatic set-up stopped him from playing his natural game as he was shackled with defensive duties more often than not last season. Camarasa managed 5 goals and 4 assists for Cardiff last season.

Under the right manager, Camarasa can take his game to the next level, and he would do well in Pellegrini’s system.

The Spaniard didn’t find it hard to adjust to the Premier League last season, so the experience will help him if he moves to the London stadium.

CONS

The Betis midfielder stands in at 6ft tall, but isn’t the strongest when it comes to aerial duels. He managed a meagre 0.6 aerial duels won per game across all competitions for Cardiff, and wasn’t aggressive enough for the Bluebirds.

Although Camarasa has excellent work-ethic, his tackling wasn’t the most impressive last season, so that’s one thing he will have to work on.
