Arsenal linked with World Cup winning midfielder: A canny move in the offing

Sami Khedira might be on the move from Juventus this summer and Arsenal could be his next destination, as per reports.

The veteran midfielder did not take part in his side’s Asia Tour and it has been claimed by Sport Media Set that he might be lured to the Emirates Stadium.

Following the arrivals of Adrien Rabiot and Aaron Ramsey, Khedira has fallen behind in the pecking order at Juventus, which is why he is apparently looking for a new club.

Intriguingly, the former Real Madrid midfield ace was spotted at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday when Arsenal faced Lyon in the Emirates Cup, which intensified the rumours.

Apart from the Gunners, their fellow Premier League rivals Wolves are also being linked to Khedira and it will be interesting to see where he ends up moving to in the upcoming days.

What has he got?

Khedira has an incredible amount of experience under his belt, having played for VfB Stuttgart, Real Madrid and Juventus over the course of his professional career.

He is a proven winner and his list of achievements include winning the Champions League once with Real Madrid and also lifting the 2014 World Cup with Germany.

The 32-year-old might not be the player he once used to be but he is still a capable box-to-box midfielder who is as comfortable defending as he is in the attacking phase.

He links up well with his teammates, is an astute passer of the ball, and his physicality has always helped him deal with the rough side of the game ably.

It has been reported that Khedira is not in Maurizio Sarri’s plans for the upcoming campaign and considering that he is far from being an obsolete commodity, he should make an exit from the Allianz Stadium this summer.

Do Arsenal need him?

Unai Emery’s side have already given their midfield a boost by signing Dani Ceballos on a season-long loan deal from Real Madrid to fill the void left by Ramsey’s departure to Juventus.

However, Arsenal will once again have to cater to their domestic as well as Europa League commitments and they do need depth in their squad across all the positions.

Blossoming central midfielders such as Joe Willock and Matteo Guendouzi are still in their learning years and it will make a lot of sense if Emery’s camp signs Khedira.

The German international’s silky and deft touches coupled with his vision and ability to make good use of the pockets of space around him will fit well in Emery’s system.

Besides, he can be a galvanising figure in the dressing room which has a lot of young midfielders and his wealth of experience can certainly help the Gunners no end if they can sign him for a reasonable fee.
