Lallana in the Deeper Role: 4-3-3 Liverpool Predicted Lineup vs Borussia Dortmund

After an impressive start to their pre-season against Tranmere Rovers and Bradford City, Liverpool will now play three friendless in the United States.

They start their US tour with a game against Jurgen Klopp’s former side Borussia Dortmund on Friday. Their 6-0 and 3-1 scorelines in the last two pre-season games will give them the confidence going into these clashes.

Klopp will not be gunning for his side to swap aside Dortmund, but he will definitely want to start this tour on a winning note and will probably use a strong side for this game.

Liverpool Team News

Klopp is yet to welcome the likes of Roberto Firmino, Alisson Becker, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, all of who were busy on international duty.

Xherdan Shaqiri and Naby Keita are nursing injuries and are not a part of the squad that will play at Notre Dame this week.

Squad

Nathaniel Clyne, Fabinho, Virgil van Dijk, Gini Wijnaldum, Dejan Lovren, James Milner, Joe Gomez, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Adam Lallana, Simon Mignolet, Rhian Brewster, Andy Robertson, Divock Origi, Joel Matip, Ryan Kent, Adam Lewis, Nat Phillips, Curtis Jones, Ki-Jana Hoever, Jakub Ojrzynski, Bobby Duncan, Ben Woodburn, Harry Wilson, Yasser Larouci, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Sepp van den Berg, Dan Atherton.

Predicted Liverpool lineup (4-3-3)

Defence

With Alisson unavailable, Simon Mignolet is the only senior goalkeeper in the squad and should start under the bar. Dan Atherton and Jakub Ojrzynski are travelling with the Reds, as backups for the Belgian on this tour.

Nathaniel Clyne scored Liverpool’s first pre-season goal and could keep his place at right-back, given that Trent Alexander-Arnold is only just back to training. Andy Robertson has spent enough time with the first team to displace Yasser Larouci from his left-back spot.

Joe Gomez and Joel Matip formed a superb partnership at the back in the previous games and should be paired up once again, for this high-intensity clash.

Dejan Lovren, Nat Phillips, Ki-Jana Hoever and Sepp van den Berg are all backups if necessary along with the huge frame of Virgil van Dijk, who is also back in training.

Midfield

Klopp has been vocal about giving Adam Lallana a chance to flourish in the no.6 role. The manager will be tempted to use the Englishman in the deepest of the midfield roles, keeping Fabinho waiting on the sidelines.

Gini Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson are just back in training and might not be risked. Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain was impressive in the furthest of the midfield roles in the last two games and deserves another chance in that role.

Curtis Jones has not put a foot wrong in the pre-season, but will be behind James Milner in the pecking order for this game.

Attack

With Firmino not back yet, Rhian Brewster, who scored three goals in those two games, should be given another chance to lead the attack for Liverpool in this game.

Harry Wilson and Ryan Kent were used excessively in those game. Neither of them has set the field on fire, but were impressive enough to earn them a place on either flank against Dortmund.

Here is how they might line up:
