Arsenal linked with a transfer for RB Leipzig ace: A good option for Emery?

Recent reports have indicated that Arsenal do not have a big transfer budget and that the Gunners will have to buy smartly in the transfer window, or existing players to fund the arrival of new signings.

The north London side desperately need fresh faces if they are to compete for a top four spot, let alone the Premier League title.

Manager Unai Emery has a difficult task at hand and it seems that he will have to pursue bargain buys ahead of the 2019-20 Premier League season.

The Gunners have been linked with a promising young German defender, RB Leipzig’s Lukas Klostermann.

The 23-year-old impressed in the European Under-21 Championship, where Germany reached the final but lost to Spain in the final.

The Gunners will have to battle Spanish side Atletico Madrid to the signature of Klostermann, but Leipzig aren’t keen on letting go of their prized possession, as per Diario AS.

Klostermann joined Leipzig in 2014, and after playing for the Under-19 and B team, was called up to the senior team, where he has become the first-choice right-back for the German club over the last two seasons.

His good form for Leipzig has also resulted in Klostermann getting his first Germany cap earlier this year.

Will Lukas Klostermann be a good option for Emery?

Klostermann has impressed over the last two seasons for Leipzig, becoming a key player for the side. In the 2018-19 season, the tall right-back made an average of 1.9 tackles a match in the Bundesliga, and 2.4 clearances.

A dependable defender, the 6’2″ rarely makes fouls (average of 0.7 fouls committed) and got no cards in the entire season. A calm-headed defender, Klostermann is difficult to get past while also contributing to the attack with his neat passing.

A good interceptor of the ball as well as tackler, Klostermann is a steady figure at the back. The German can play as a centre-back apart from his usual role at right-back.

Arsenal could be without a first-team right-back if they do not sign a new right-back before the start of the season.

First-choice right-back Hector Bellerin will be out of action due to injury, while Carl Jenkinson is linked with a move to Crystal Palace. Stephan Lichtsteiner has left the club after his contract with the Gunners expired.

With Arsenal leaking goals last season, the signing of Klostermann could plug a gaping hole in the Gunners’ defence.
