Wolves eyeing a move for Serie A midfield powerhouse: Ideal option for Nuno

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked with a bevvy of players since the end of the 2018-19 season, many of them being central midfielders, which is one area that the Premier League club needs to strengthen. The latest midfielder that Wolves are interested in is Napoli’s Amadou Diawara, as per Corriere del Mezzogiorno. The Guinean midfielder is currently rated at €15 million by Transfermarkt.

Wolves aren’t the only Premier League club interested in signing Diawara as Watford are also reportedly interested in acquiring his signature, while Tottenham have been linked with him previously. German club Hertha Berlin are also in the race to sign Diawara whose contract with Napoli expires two years from now in 2021.

The 21-year-old midfielder joined the Italian club in 2016 from Bologna for €14.5 million. Diawara has been a squad player since signing for them in 2016, playing 74 times and scoring 2 goals. In the 2018-19 season, Diawara started just 11 games and made a total of 19 appearances for Napoli.

The Guinea international has played thrice for his national team since making his debut last year.

What will he add to the Wolves side?

Diawara usually plays in a holding role at the base of midfield but he is equally adept at playing in the centre of the park as a central midfielder. His key skill is his ability to pass the ball exceptionally well, long or short, and dictate play from midfield.

He has excelled in the holding midfield role and has shown that he can hold the ball well using his strength to his advantage. Another key attribute of Diawara is his intelligence, deciding when to pass the ball and holding it, as well as breaking the opposition’s pressing with his quick anticipatory movements.

His strength without the ball while his team are defending is also very good and he is a good tackler of the ball. A player who can provide something in attack and defence, Diawara could be a very useful player for Wolves for next season, and at 21 years of age, he has the potential to develop into a special player. He could excel alongside Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho who had a great 2018-19 season for Wolves.
