Wolves eyeing hard-tackling French midfielder: A shrewd choice by Nuno

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ fantastic 2018-19 season, where they finished seventh in the league, was a welcome surprise, considering it was their first season back in the Premier League. One of their main strengths was their central midfield as the duo of Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho impressed and were instrumental in Wolves’ good form. The English club want to further strengthen the midfield area and have been linked with French midfielder, Lucas Tousart.

A report by Calciomercato states that Wolves are keen on adding the young Frenchman to their squad, but there seems to be interest from other clubs as well, including Italian giants Inter Milan. Transfermarkt values Tousart at around €20 million, who was signed by Lyon from Valenciennes in 2015 for €2.6 million. The 22-year-old signed a contract extension with the French club last year and his current contract will expire only in 2023.

Tousart played for Valenciennes’ youth academy before playing for the second team and then the senior team, and good performances for them led to a move to Lyon, where he has become a regular starter and a very important player for the side. The French midfielder made 42 appearances for the side in the 2018-19 campaign, averaging around 2.7 tackles a game in the Champions League and Ligue 1.

Will he be a good signing for Wolves?

Lucas Tousart is a defensive midfielder who plays deep in midfield, providing a screen to his team’s defence, and uses his tackling prowess and athleticism to good use. Tousart does his job silently in midfield, keeping the ball ticking and controlling the tempo of the game. A calm and composed player in midfield, the 22-year-old is a ball-winning midfielder who can intercept and make tackles, dispossess the opposition of the ball and move further forward quickly.

Wolves played with three men in the central midfield last season, with Neves and Moutinho playing alongside the on-loan midfielder Leander Dendoncker. But with Wolves set to take part in Europe which will substantially increase their work-load, the English club do need another hard-tackling midfielder, who can also pass the ball well, which is where Tousart fits in perfectly. He will add depth to the team while also making sure the present stars of the impressive campaign are not allowed to rest on their laurels.

Tousart will offer something different to the Wolves midfield with his tackling and energy and could be a great long-term signing for them considering he is just 22 years of age.

Its perfect time to make some plans for the future and its time to be happy with more.
