Tottenham Hotspur linked with a transfer for Champions League star: A top signing for the club

Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek could be on his way to the Premier League, with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United interested in the talented Dutchman.

According to talkSPORT’s Dutch football expert Marcel Van der Kraan, the Ajax sensation’s agent has advised him to join either of the two clubs to take his career forward in the right direction.

Tottenham need to add more freshness to their squad having gone two transfer windows without signing a single player, and van de Beek seems like the perfect option considering his style.

The Lilywhites have also shown the willingness to sign van de Beek, as per the Sun, but will have to fork out £45million for his signature.

Why Tottenham should sign Donny van de Beek

The 22-year-old is one of the hottest properties in the game at the moment. He emerged through the renowned youth setup of Ajax, and has steadily progressed to cement his place in their senior side.

Last season, the Dutch outfit surpassed expectations made it to the semi-finals of the Champions League, beating Real Madrid and Juventus on their way.

Ajax also lifted the Eredivisie title, and van de Beek was a key player for them as he scored 9 goals and also registered 10 assists in 34 league outings for his side.

The Dutchman also excelled in the Champions League, having mustered 3 goals and 2 assists in 12 games. Despite being just 22, he has already shown that he possesses a lot of qualities that belie his age.

Van de Beek is a proficient passer of the ball, and is technically extremely sound, so he can play in a slightly advanced role or in a deeper role if required. The 22-year old averaged more than one key pass a game in the Eredivisie and Champions League last season.

Tottenham’s midfield can improve further, and van de Beek could fit right in. He might not be a finished article, but under someone like Pochettino, he should be able to take his game to the next level.

The Dutch international maintains a fine balance between his defensive and offensive duties, which should help Spurs. He might not have the experience of the Premier League, but he has done well in the Champions League, and would be a welcome addition at Tottenham.
