Tottenham Hotspur given the chance to sign £35m-rated Ligue 1 attacker: Good fit for Spurs?

Tottenham Hotspur midfield star Christian Eriksen is set to leave the English club in the summer, as he announced recently that he wants a new challenge, with reports suggesting that his destination could be Real Madrid. Following the development, Spurs have reportedly been offered Paris Saint-Germain’s Julian Draxler (report by Daily Star) in the summer transfer window.

PSG want to sell the German star to fulfil FFP regulations as the French side look to get rid of a few players and add some world-class stars to challenge for the Champions League again. Draxler is expected to cost £35 million for Spurs in the summer.

The German attacking midfielder and winger was signed by the Parisian side in 2017 from Wolfsburg and cost the club £30 million. Draxler’s current contract with PSG expires in 2021. The 25-year-old previously played for Schalke before his move to Wolfsburg and later PSG. With the French side, Draxler has won two back-to-back league titles, as well as the French Cup and French League Cup.

Draxler played 46 games for PSG in all competitions, where he started 22 games in Ligue 1 and 3 games in Champions League. The German attacker scored 5 times and had provided 12 assists in all competitions for PSG.

The attacking midfielder has been an important player for the German national side, playing 49 games for his country, scoring 6 goals, since his debut in 2012. He was a part of the Die Mannschaft 2014 World Cup squad which won the trophy.

Worthy enough replacement if Eriksen leaves?

Christian Eriksen has been a key player for Spurs in the last few seasons and has gone on to become a world-class operator under the Argentine manager. But with him edging towards the exit door, Spurs will have to replace him with another midfielder who can be almost as influential in the near future.

Draxler could be a good option for Spurs as he is a player who has the technique and vision to create chances from midfield. A quick player with good dribbling ability, the German can play as an attacking midfielder as well as in midfield, while he can also play on both wings.

At 25 years of age, Draxler could still develop and have a big influence on the Spurs side from midfield for years to come and could become a much better player under Pochettino as we have seen with plenty talented players who have worked with the Argentine.
