Newcastle United eyeing a swoop for Serie A forward: What will he offer the team?

Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing Juventus striker Stephy Mavididi.

The Magpies are one of the many sides who want to bring the 21-year-old on loan ahead of the 2019-20 season.

Several Premier League and Championship clubs — including Southampton, Leeds United, Everton, Aston Villa, Burnley, Derby, Middlesbrough, and Fulham — are keen on signing the English striker, as per Team Talk.

Newcastle have been linked with several strikers in the past few weeks as the likes of Salomón Rondón, Alfredo Morelos, and Danny Welbeck have all been on their radar.

Stephy Mavididi – Profile

Mavididi came through the ranks at Arsenal and went out on loan to Charlton and Preston North End, before signing for Juventus for a fee of €2 million at the start of the 2018-19 season.  He never made a senior appearance for Arsenal.

At Juventus, the 21-year-old primarily played for the under-23 side, scoring 6 goals in Serie C. The striker also played one game for the Juventus senior side when he played against S.P.A.L. in the Serie A.

The youngster has represented England in several age groups and last played for the England U20 team.

What will Mavididi offer Newcastle United?

Mavididi is primarily a striker, but can play as a second striker or off the left-hand side as well. The 21-year-old’s best attribute is his speed, with or without the ball, as he has shown that he can use pace to his advantage.

The Englishman can cause defences trouble with his running – in behind the defence without the ball, as well as at defenders with the ball at this feet.

A talented striker who is still very raw in senior football, Mavididi could be a great option to bring off the bench and run against tired defenders in the latter stages of games.

Mavididi is quick and powerful, and his versatility of being able to play in multiple positions in the attacking third could be useful for the Magpies.

Rondon’s impending return to West Brom means Newcastle will have fewer options to call upon as the likes of Joselu and Yoshinori Muto were inconsistent last season. Mavididi could offer the team something different with his ability in the attacking third.
