Manchester United readying massive £500,000-a-week contract for superstar: Wise move?

Manchester United’s current biggest issue in the summer transfer window is the situation regarding Paul Pogba who recently revealed that he wants a “new challenge” and hinted at leaving Old Trafford ahead of the next season.

But, Manchester United are reportedly keen on keeping the midfielder at Old Trafford and will offer Pogba £500,000-a-week to convince him to stay at the club, as per Daily Mail. That will be a massive hike from his £290,000-a-week contract that he currently has at the club, which he signed when he joined in 2016.

The 26-year-old is a target for Juventus and Real Madrid, who are keen on signing the Frenchman who has not had the impact that many at Old Trafford would have desired. Madrid, in fact, have made a £90 million bid for Pogba, with Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane known to be a big fan of the French midfielder.

Pogba’s five-year contract that he signed in 2016 expires in 2021 but United have the option to extend the contract by a year.

The midfielder was the top scorer and assist maker for Manchester United in the 2018-19 season, but pundits and fans have criticised him for his attitude and his lack of influence on the team especially in crunch situations.

Is it a wise decision to offer him a new contract?

After reaching the highest of highs following the World Cup win with France, Manchester United fans expected Paul Pogba to take the club higher up the table and challenge the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.

However, after a public bust-up with former manager Jose Mourinho and United following further away from the pack, the blame has once again been squarely laid on the Frenchman’s feet.

It is unfair to single out and criticise one player for the team’s miserable performance, and it seems like the criticism was the last straw for the Frenchman, who wants a quick exit from Old Trafford.

Pogba no longer wants to stay at the club and it’s time to let go of him rather than offer him a massive contract, which would be much higher than what any other player earns at Old Trafford, barring Alexis Sanchez.

Manchester United should demand transfer fees of over £100 million and find a replacement for Pogba, while also strengthening other areas of the pitch.
