Manchester United join the race for in-demand Turkish defensive sensation: Smart choice by Ole

Manchester United are ready to spend big ahead of the 2019-20 season as they look to once again compete at the top of the Premier League table. The English giants are reportedly interested in signing young Turkish centre-back Ozan Kabak in the summer, as per Daily Mail. The report says that United could bid £13.2 million to secure the services of the 19-year-old before the start of the next season.

Kabak joined German club Stuttgart in January 2019 for £9.9 million from Galatasaray but following the German side’s relegation from Bundesliga, we could see the highly-rated player move once again. The 19-year-old only made his senior debut in May 2018 for Galatasaray after coming through the ranks at the club. At Stuttgart, the central defender scored three goals in the 17 appearances he made for the club, impressing despite the club’s relegation.

The Turkish defender made 17 starts for the club in the 2018-19 season since joining in January after being a key player for Galatasaray earlier in the season. The German club were relegated to 2. Bundesliga after losing their relegation play-off match to Union Berlin.

What will Kabak offer Manchester United?

Kabak is a highly-rated defender who is one of the many modern defenders who is comfortable with the ball at his feet. Some of the biggest clubs in Europe scouted the Turkish defender before his move to Stuttgart and Manchester United were one of the clubs interested in him last year.

The teenager likes to bring the ball forward as well as initiate attacks from the back with his good range of short and long passing. The 6’1″ defender is also great in the air, clearing balls that are put in the box with ease, while he is also useful in the opposition box with his heading prowess, scoring goals aplenty in youth international games.

Manchester United could benefit from a young player, who already looks like a leader a the back, and if the transfer fee is under £15 million, it is worth a gamble to sign a talented young player like Ozan Kabak in the summer. United will have to, though, sell a few of their current centre backs as they currently have five first-team options who, other than Victor Lindelof, are not really at the level Manchester United strive to be on.

I could not resist commenting. Well written here!
