Everton desperate to sign South American midfield sensation: Good choice by Silva

Everton have been heavily linked with River Plate’s talented midfielder Santiago Sosa, although there is a significant roadblock in the prospective transfer.

Liverpool Echo has claimed that the Toffees have been pursuing Sosa over the past few weeks and a £13million move was also believed to have been agreed between the two clubs.

However, the hammer is yet to fall owing to issues relating to his work permit. Sosa’s representatives are reportedly trying to fix the apparent problem to facilitate his move to the Goodison Park.

His representatives are trying to obtain an EU passport through his European ancestry and there is certainly a chance for him to make a switch to the Premier League this summer if the relevant documents are granted on time.

Everton finished eighth in the English top-flight last season and in order to make a push for a European spot, they need additions in the ongoing transfer window. The addition of Sosa, in that regard, will be a welcome move.

What will he offer to Everton?

Having spent his youth at River Plate, Sosa was promoted to the senior side of the Argentine outfit. A deep-lying midfielder by trade, he offers a tremendous passing range and has the vision needed to excel in the Premier League.

The 20-year-old, who has represented the Argentina Under-20 side and has a bright future ahead of him, is adept at recycling possession and has the knack to win the ball back for his side.

Marco Silva’s side already have a world class midfielder in Idrissa Gueye in their artillery. Gueye provides a lot of energy and dynamism in the middle of the park but has been strongly linked with an exit ever since January with the rumours gathering steam in the last couple of days.

Sosa is not as aggressive in midfield as Gueye but can be a calming influence in deep midfield with players like Tom Davies, Schneiderlin and possibly Andre Gomes strutting their stuff ahead of him.

Although Sosa is unaccustomed to English football and lacks adequate experience under his belt, he seems to have the right attributes to settle in England even though there is quite a bit to go before he can be termed as a finished article. But under the expert coaching of Marco Silva, there is every chance he can nail down a spot in midfield for the Toffees in the long-run.
