Atalanta full-back Timothy Castagne is on Crystal Palace’s radar, and fancies a move to the Premier League, it has been reported.
Castagne is attracted by the prospect of playing in the English top flight and this might hand the Eagles a big transfer boost.
“Serie A is a very competitive league, I like it, but one day I would like to compete in the Premier League.
“As for the offers, I will be honest, in general there isn’t a lack of them, but the priority is Atalanta,” Castagne told Gazzetta Dello Sport.
Palace will have to compete with Celtic and Napoli are also interested in the full-back, as per the Evening Standard.
The versatile player had a brilliant season with Atalanta, and will reportedly cost around €20 million.
Having spent his youth career at Belgian side Genk, Castagne steadily made the senior team. Atalanta signed him in the summer of 2017 after his impressive performances for Genk.
The 23-year-old enjoyed a productive campaign last season as he managed 4 goals and 2 assists in 28 Serie A outings.
He was instrumental in helping his side finish third in the Italian top tier, as Atalanta made history to qualify for the Champions League.
Castagne could be a handy replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has been linked with a move to away from Selhurst Park this summer.
The Belgian international is a versatile player, and can feature on the wings if needed. His defensive work-ethic means he can also slot in at full-back with ease.
Castagne’s speed allows him to make quick transitions from defence to attack, so he can stretch defences.
The 23-year old mustered 2.2 tackles, 1 interception, and 1.6 clearances per game on an average.
Decisive with is tackling and strong in the air, Castagne is a complete package, so the Eagles should jump at the opportunity to sign him.
Even if Wan-Bissaka stays at Selhurst Park, Castagne’s addition would only improve the quality of Palace’s squad as he is a versatile player and can be used on the wings.
