Arsenal in pursuit of £13.5m rated PSG midfielder: A good option for Emery?

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Christopher Nkunku has emerged as a transfer target for Arsenal, it has been reported.

The north London outfit are keen to strengthen their midfield this summer, and it has been claimed by L’Equipe that Unai Emery wants the versatile Nkunku as an option next season.

PSG are reportedly asking for £13.5 million for Nkunku, who made 22 appearances for the French champions in Ligue 1 last season.

Interestingly, Get French Football News have stated that RB Leipzig are also interested in the midfield ace, and have made a proposal of €15million, exclusive of bonuses.

Arsenal are yet to react, but the bid will have to be something better than Leipzig’s for the Gunners to stand any chance of signing Nkunku.

Christopher Nkunku: Profile

Nkunku emerged through the youth ranks of PSG and steadily paved his way to their senior team. He started 13 times and made nine substitute appearances in Ligue 1 for the Parisians last season, and managed to score 3 goals, and muster 2 assists.

The 21-year old also featured in Coupe de France, Coupe de la Ligue and Trophee des Champions and is one of their prized assets. Nkunku has also represented France at various youth levels, and has a bright future ahead of him.

Is Nkunku a good option for Arsenal?

Nkunku is a gifted player and is technically very sound. Dribbling is one of his strongest assets and his versatility of being able to play as a midfielder, right-back as well as a right-winger makes him a good target for the Gunners.

The 21-year-old is an astute passer of the ball and is also very comfortable in possession. He has the calibre to make a quick transition from defence to attack and for his age, is pretty decisive in the attacking third.

The Gunners need backup in the right-back position as Stephan Lichtsteiner will leave the club at the end of the month. Nkunku has the ability to do a pretty good job at right-back.

Further, the impending exit of Aaron Ramsey has depleted their midfield resources and in such a situation, Nkunku could be a valuable addition.

Considering the French league is a bit different compared to the Premier League, expect a bit of a transition time. Having said that, Emery did well to integrated Matteo Guendouzi immediately into the Arsenal lineup, so we could potentially see the same with Nkunku should the Gunners sign him.
