Wolves linked with a transfer for Porto goal-machine: He’d take them to the next level

Wolverhampton Wanderers have had a dream run in the Premier League this season, their first year since their return to the top tier of English football. Manager Nuno Espírito Santo has done a phenomenal job at Molineux, taking Wolves to a Europa League position, and playing exciting football.

Thanks to a few smart buys in the transfer market and the influx of talented Portuguese players, the former Porto manager has got a few big-name scalps, defeating Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United this season.

But the big test for this Wolves team will be next season, their second in the Premier League, which has always been a tough challenge for teams that have been promoted to the Premier League.

Espirito Santo will have to strengthen his squad if they qualify for Europe as teams in the past have shown that playing Thursday-Sunday-Thursday week in, week out, could significantly affect their league standing.

The Wolves attack, especially Diego Jota and Raúl Jiménez have been in stellar form this season, scoring 9 and 13 goals respectively. But they will need some backup next season, and Wolves seem to have found the perfect player to complement them, Porto striker Moussa Marega, as per, Birmingham Mail.

Will Moussa Marega be a good fit for Wolves?

Strong, quick, and powerful, Marega seems to be made for the hustle and bustle of the Premier League, and he also knows how to hit the back of the net.

The Malian international impressed in this year’s Champions League, scoring six times and assisting twice in Europe, while he’s scored 10 goals and six assists in the Portuguese league.

Marega could be a perfect fit for the quick, counter-attacking football that Wolves have played this season, and will also bring some European experience if Wolves do qualify for the Europa League.

The forward’s agent is Jorge Mendes, the same gentleman who orchestrated the Portuguese influx at Wolves, which would make this deal an easy one to complete for the Midlands club.

Marega’s release clause is €40 million and Wolves have the financial muscle to bid anywhere in the region of €25-30 million to secure his transfer.
