Bayer Leverkusen’s Julian Brandt could end up at Tottenham Hotspur come the end of the summer transfer window.
According to a report from Daily Mail, Tottenham are planning to launch a bid for the 23-year-old German as a potential replacement for Christian Eriksen, who could be on his way to Real Madrid according to recent developments in the transfer market.
Brandt is understood to have a release clause of £21.5m, and could well become the first big-name signing to join the north London side for a while now.
If Eriksen leaves the club, there will be a pretty big hole left to fill in. Brandt seems like the real deal, who could fill that void.
The 23-year-old German is a versatile attacker, who has predominantly featured as a left winger, but can be deployed as a right winger or an attacking midfielder if the situation arises.
Pochettino, who likes to test the team’s formation from time to time, would love to have an all-round player like Brandt in his squad. The Leverkusen star has 26 goal contributions in 42 games across all competitions, netting the ball on 17 separate occasions.
Brandt possesses many qualities to Pochettino’s liking with his through balls, pin-point crossing from the flanks, and linkup play with his teammates being some of the key abilities.
The 23-year-old is talented when it comes to dribbling, can manoeuvre the ball well even in tight spaces. His acceleration on the counter-attacks would also be a useful trait against certain teams.
Brandt was part of the young German squad that lifted the Confederations Cup back in 2017 defeating a Chile side which had the likes of Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez in their prime. However, the biggest surprise in his career was yet to come.
Joachim Low picked Brandt ahead of Manchester City’s Leroy Sane for the FIFA World Cup in 2018 which in itself speaks volumes.
The Leverkusen midfielder impressed many with his cameo appearances for Germany in the World Cup, but was unlucky on two separate occasions as the ball struck the woodwork.
Brandt has shown his potential on numerous occasions, and he would be a good fit at Tottenham.
