Newcastle United want to sign Liverpool winger: A good option for Benitez

Derby County manager Frank Lampard has had a great first year in management, taking the Rams to Championship play-off final.

One player who has been vital for the Chelsea legend in the Derby side has been Harry Wilson, who is currently on loan for the season from Premier League side Liverpool.

The Welsh winger, who recently turned 22, played 48 games for the Championship side in all competitions, registering 18 goals and 4 assists.

The impressive year in the Championship has resulted in several Premier League clubs, including Newcastle United, taking an interest in signing him in the transfer window.

According to Sky Sports, Southampton and Brighton are also interested, with a bid of around £25 million said to be enough to sign the Welshman.

Lampard himself has praised Wilson and had this to say earlier this year, “Everything about his game is positive, he wants the ball, he’s creating, he’s scoring so it’s not just the fantastic goals that Harry Wilson is; he’s a player who is developing fast and I’m loving watching him play at the minute.”

Is Wilson a good option for Newcastle United?

The left-footed winger has mainly played on the right side, but is capable of playing anywhere across the attacking line, while he has also played in a central midfield role.

Wilson is a direct player who likes to take on defenders, play through balls, as well as drift inside to take shots and passes.

The Welshman is a good set-piece taker, and is also one who is eager to shoot from distance. The diminutive Liverpool winger has the pace to worry defenders, and put in crosses into the box.

Newcastle United could benefit from a player like Wilson, who is one for the present and the future. Ayoze Perez and Matt Richie have played on the wide right. Perez is more suited to play as a second striker, while Richie has mainly played as a left-back this season.

Wilson would be a great addition as he has shown the determination, drive, and directness that is needed of top quality wide players. He is bound to become better as he is just 22 years of age.
