Manchester United have added Milan Skriniar to their list of targets for the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Red Devils conceded an incredible 54 goals, the highest the club have allowed in the Premier League, and that’s certainly a shameful record for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to live with.
According to a report from Independent, Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar has been identified as a possible solution to the defensive woes.
Some other names like Harry Maguire, Toby Alderweireld, and Kalidou Koulibaly have also resurfaced since the season finished last weekend, but Skriniar along with Maguire looks like the best bet at the moment.
The Slovakian International, who turned 24 this February, has made 44 appearances for Inter Milan this season, and has been a starter at the San Siro for quite some time now.
Solskjaer’s honeymoon period ended as soon as Red Devils handed him a three-year contract in March. Manchester United once again finished 6th in the Premier League and for the second year in a row, finished the season trophyless. But not all the problems can be pinned on the Norwegian.
The upcoming transfer window and the first few months of the 2019/20 season will be the biggest test for Solskjaer’s Manchester United reign, and Skriniar looks just the man to solve the defensive misery at the Theatre of Dreams.
The Slovakian International has a lot of quality, and with a 6ft 2in frame, any doubts over physicality concerns to succeed in the Premier League have already been thrown out of the window. Skriniar composure on the ball is another one of the factors which reflect in his play with the Slovakian garnering a 92.1% passing accuracy in the 2018/19 campaign across all competitions.
The 24-year-old’s awareness and reading of the game is another element to be taken into account, which has been a sense of worry with the current defensive regime at Old Trafford. Skriniar doesn’t lunge into tackles, but rather has a knack for standing tackles which is nothing but a sign of a top quality centre-back.
Skriniar’s performance against Barcelona in the Champions League earlier in the year, where he kept an attacking line of Ousmane Dembele, Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho at bay, was one of his best performances.
The Slovakian is a versatile ball-playing centre-back, who can move to right-back whenever called upon, so that’s another plus for the club he ends up at in the future.
The Inter defender’s footballing brain ticks all the boxes for a top quality ball playing centre-back which makes him such a huge prospect considering he is only 24 years of age.
