Pundit feels this Liverpool star would do well at Manchester City: Should Pep make a move?

Adam Lallana is a forgotten man at Liverpool as the Englishman featured sporadically in the 2018-19 season. The former Southampton player recently turned 31, and could perhaps leave Anfield in search of first-team football.

Former Manchester City defender Danny Mills, feels that Lallana would be perfect for Manchester City. In an interview with Football Insider, Mills had this to say about Lallana:

“You almost forget about him but he is very gifted and a talented footballer. I would almost say he more fits the Man City style, he’d be perfect for them with his short, darting runs and clever runs in behind.

“Liverpool will definitely want to keep him but it might come down to him wanting to reignite his career. If that’s the case, he’s going to go. He’s such a good player he won’t be short of interested clubs,” Mills said.

Lallana has featured in just 16 games for Liverpool this season, with 6 of them being starts.

The 31-year old’s contract with the Reds expires next year, and it looks unlikely that he will sign a new deal considering his lack of playing time. He was signed by Liverpool from Southampton for £25 million in the summer of 2014.

Should Manchester City make a move for Lallana?

Mills is right when he says that Lallana would fit Manchester City’s style of play as he’s a player who likes to play quick, short passes, passes around the corner, and pass-and-move type of football, but signing Lallana at this stage of his career may not be a wise decision.

Firstly, Lallana recently turned 31 and perhaps has just a year or two at a top level, playing for a club like Liverpool or Manchester City.

The England international has also not played a lot of football of late, due to injury and competition for places at Liverpool.

A couple of years ago, Lallana was a key player under Klopp as he could press, and was composed on the ball in the final third. However, his injury problems in recent seasons raise doubts if he can do the same, even for a year or two.

Liverpool also may not sell a player to their direct rival in Manchester City and may tell Lallana to find a different club to move to.

Lallana moving to City may have been a good move if it was 2-3 seasons ago and not now, when City have better quality players in their position and will have to invest in young players who can be at the club for the next 5-7 years.
